The tool that will save the day if you've forgotten to order bushings or can't find them! Here's how to use them in place of bushings:
Look for the bushing measurements on the kit instructions. If those aren't available, use your calipers to measure the outside diameter of the kit parts that will come into contact with your turned barrel, like the nib, centre band, finial or end cap.
Turn your blank down to those outside diameters and use your calipers to measure your progress as you go to make sure you don't take off too much material.
Stop with the chisel when you're approaching the outside diameters and switch to sanding.
Calipers are also a perfect solution if the bushings for your kit are no longer available or you want to check to see if your bushings need replacing.
